FFA Cup Qualifying Round 6 Preview

June 7th, 2018

 SPROULE SPORTS FOCUS

This Saturday, six National Premier Leagues (NPL) Northern NSW (NNSW) sides from the Southern Conference, and two clubs from North Coast Football (NCF) and Football Mid North Coast (FMNC) in the Northern Conference battle it out in the hope of moving just one step towards the illustrious FFA Cup Round of 32.

All matches will be held at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility (LMRFF) and the day will kick off with a massive clash between two NPL NNSW heavyweights.

Hamilton Olympic has struggled early on this season and currently sit in 8th place but have not yet competed in the Round of 32; focus and determination will be at an all-time high for the club and it’ll need to be if they are to beat Edgeworth Eagles.

Edgeworth is attempting to make their fourth straight appearance in the Round of 32 and that isn’t all the history that weighs in their favour – this weekend will mark the third time they’ve faced Olympic in the qualifying rounds and they are still yet to lose.

Another team that has had plenty of experience in the Round of 32 is Broadmeadow Magic who currently sits atop of the NPL NNSW table and is attempting to qualify for the fourth time but they face an Adamstown Rosebud side who will also be fixed on qualifying to add another milestone to their significant history.

FMNC side Port United feature for the first time in the final eight and after scoring 19 goals in their four qualifying matches, they will be hoping their strong goalscoring efforts can overcome that of Lambton Jaffas’ all-star forwards who have managed to score 15 times in only two games and currently sit in 3rd in the NPL NNSW and are looking to return to the Round of 32 having missed out in 2017.

The last match of the day sees NCF’s Boambee Bombers take on Charlestown City Blues and may pose the biggest threat in becoming the first Northern Conference team to progress into the cup.

Boambee currently sit in first place and undefeated in the C.ex Group Men’s Premier League and are averaging scoring five goals a game, however, Charlestown pose the equal-best defensive record in the NPL NNSW and with one of the more experienced rosters in the league, the club will be confident in progressing to the final round.

If all Southern Conference sides attain victory, the Round 7 match will proceed on Tuesday, June 12 or Wednesday, June 13 next week, however, if either of the Northern Conference teams wins, their Round 7 games will take place on Monday, June 11 at the LMRFF.

This Saturday’s match times are as follows:

10:00 am – Edgeworth Eagles vs Hamilton Olympic

12:30 pm – Adamstown Rosebud vs Broadmeadow Magic

3:00 pm – Port United vs Lambton Jaffas

5:30 pm – Boambee Bombers vs Charlestown City Blues
