Kevin Grima to attend Speers Point & Taree Newcastle Permanent Coaching Masterclasses

May 8th, 2019

Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) Youth Development Manager Kevin Grima will be Guest Speaker at a FREE Newcastle Permanent Community Coaching Master-Classes, proudly presented by Newcastle Permanent, our Official Partner in Community Football across Northern New South Wales.

The topic will be the new Game-Intervention-Game Methodology (or G.I.G Method) which is aimed towards facilitating alternative training content for the youth age groups (male and female players aged 13-16).

In July, 2018, the FFA Technical Department released the Skill Acquisition Manual: A resource for youth coaches of players aged 9-12 years.

Within the manual, the Game-Intervention-Game (GIG) Methodology was introduced and it was one of the major topics presented at the 2018 State Coaching Conferences.

The GIG Methodology was well received by the coaching masses with a number of Member Federation Technical Directors requesting the Methodology be adopted to support the work of coaches of players aged 13-16 years in the Game Training Phase.

The Game Training GIG methodology is based on tapping into young players inherent desire to play more games.

This is an alternative form to structure a Game Training Phase session from the current structure of: Passing Practice; Positioning Game; Game Training; and, Training Game as described in the National Football Curriculum.

The presentation will explain each component as it fits into the model.
