National Premier League Youth – Match reports Round 2 vs Edgeworth Eagles

March 30th, 2016

Sunday 27th March
Taree Zone Field
Under 13’s
FMNC 5 Edgeworth Eagles 1

What better way to spend Easter Sunday than a game of football on the beautiful mid north coast.

And the action on the field lived up to expectations with the U13’s playing some lovely football against a very determined and competitive Edgeworth Eagles. Goal scoring started early with a lovely break from Luke Townsend who finished nicely to put FMNC up one nil.
Another first half goal by Owen Tomlinson gave FMNC a 2-0 lead at half time but with a feeling the the game was far from over.

The second half started well with a goal to Luke Townsend before Edgeworth struck with a beautifully constructed goal. Luckily for us they missed a penalty shot after a mis-timed tackle by one of our anonymous defenders inside the box.

Whilst Edgeworth had the better of play for the last 15 minutes, further goals to Luke Townsend and Angus Robertson put the result beyond doubt. Luke Townsend finished with a well-deserved hat-trick for the game.

The final result a gutsy and classy 5-1 win to FMNC.

FMNC boys bounced back from their defeat at the hands of Broadmeadow Magic last week to come out playing positive football.

They controlled  most of the half with good possession and shape, unlucky not to put a few goals in the net. With the half time score locked at 0-0 the second half promised to be the decider.

Mitchell Lewis, Nick Wright and Ty Marchant all led the way showing good intensity. In what ended up becoming a see-sawing match it was in the 42nd minute when Edgeworth played the ball through close to our penalty box and with strong pressing from their no 9 they came up with possession to score Edgeworths first goal, 0-1 Edgeworth.

Two minutes later, FMNC’s midfield linked up with the very zippy Logan Palmer on the right wing who pushed past Edgeworth’s defence, going 1 v 1 with the keeper and scored FMNCs first goal. FMNC 1 – 1 Edgeworth.

In the 46th minute Logan Palmer again pushed on with the ball beating the defence to release a fantastic direct pass across goal for Dylan Webber to finish on the back post. FMNC 2-1 Edgeworth.

Before all watching could take in the 3 goals just scored in 6 minutes, Edgeworth were given a free kick 10 metres outside our penalty box to the right side of the defending goal. The free kick was played in via the air where it was met unopposed on the back post for a good header to score Edgeworth’s second goal. FMNC 2-2 Edgeworth.

Midway through the second half, a back pass to the FMNC keeper was pounced on and possession taken by Edgeworth who scored their third goal to regain the lead. FMNC 2-3 Edgeworth.

In what was an exciting game to watch the score remained 2-3 until the full time whistle. With only the one sub on the bench the FMNC boys seemed to run out of batteries a bit in the last quarter of the game and although they didn’t come away with any points they should be proud of their effort which was much better than last week and really not that far away from the win.
