Newcastle Jets W-League Take on FMNC Select | ‘Coast Clash’ Begins

September 29th, 2018

A massive football double header has been booked in for Sunday the 14th of October at the Zone Field in Taree. The Newcastle Jets W-League squad and three Football Mid North Coast Select sides will be in action on the day.

Kicking off at 2.30pm, the Newcastle Jets Women’s side coached by Craig Deans, will play a trial match against a selected squad from the FMNC area coached by Michael Grass.

Jets coach Deans will get the chance to give his squad a good hit out ahead of their W-League season opener on Thursday 1st November. The Jets will be aiming high this season after last season’s 3rd place finish and making their first Finals appearance in nearly 10 years. They will take on Melbourne Victory (live on Fox Sports) at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne in Round 2 of the season after beginning their campaign with a bye in Round 1.

Following the Women’s Trial match, the inaugural clash between FMNC North and FMNC South will take place at 4.30pm. The first installment of the ‘Coast Clash’ promises to be an entertaining encounter as the best of the zones Premier League players go head to head. Both sides have taken on the Newcastle Jets in 2017 and 2018 with the trial matches proving a great success for the area. Now it’s time for the sides to meet in a derby fixture that will become a regular on the FMNC calendar.

FMNC South will be represented by players selected from Wallis Lake, Tuncurry Forster Tigers, Taree Wildcats and Camden Haven Redbacks. Whilst the FMNC North side is represented by players from Macleay Valley Rangers, Kempsey Saints, Port United, Port Saints and Wauchope SC.

Get along to the Zone Field in Taree on Sunday 14th October for two fantastic games of football showcasing the Newcastle Jets W-League side and the best of our local Women’s and Men’s players.
