Arthur Edden Oval
FMNC travelled to Arthur Edden Oval to face Lambton Jaffas in Round 14 of the NNSW NPL. Weather conditions were cool with no wind or rain making it pleasant for football.
The weather was not the only thing that was cold, with FMNC starting very slowly, failing to control the ball or make passes hit their mark. Things started to heat up at the 6 minute mark with a few passes strung together, and a solid finish by the fit again Luke Townsend. FMNC took a 1-0 lead. Townsend struck again 1 minute from halftime, and FMNC led 2-0 at the half-time break.
The second half started poorly for both sides with the ball given away cheaply. Again FMNC played their way into a bit of form as the half progressed, with some soild work on the right flank by Angus Robertson, resulting in a series of corners. Mason Moore scored from an ensuing corner giving FMNC a 3-0 lead.
That score was how the game ended, with FMNC taking 3 points and the lead on the ladder. However, improvement will be needed to retain that place with strong opposition in the coming weeks.

Lambton saw the FMNC 17s start very well, holding possession and moving the ball from sideline to sideline. They deprived the Lambton side the ball and left them wondering what was going on. 32 minutes in and an unfortunately a loss of concentration for a 5 minute period invited Lambton into the game letting them score to go 1-0.
Heads dropped a little but not for long. Subs were made which mixed it up a bit and FMNC went on to score an equaliser in the 37th minute through some great determination to get there by Ty Marchant.
The half time talk from Grassy reinforced the game plan with the boys and they retook the field raring to go. Going ahead 2-1 in the 42nd minute from a corner OG and again scoring in the 52nd minute with a fantastic strike from Logan Palmer outside the 18 yard box.
With 5 minutes to go Lambton came back with a goal to make it 3-2 and ensured a scrabble for the last period of the game. Well-deserved boys – great win with some excellent passages of football which at times left the opposition “chasing shadows”. Keep it up.
Final score 3-2 to FMNC.
