NPL Round 19 vs Charlestown

August 5th, 2016

Sunday 31st July 2016
Taree Zone Field

Under 13’s

In a game that was largely won and lost in the first half, FMNC U/13’s defeated Charlestown 5-0. The first 20 minutes of the game produced a flurry of goals from Flynn Parker, Owen Thomlinson, Luke Townsend and Angus Robertson in an entertaining spectacle of individual and team skill.

As the visitors’ game recovered from this initial onslaught, FMNC continued to attack their goal with some lovely combined attacking efforts fed by the FMNC halves, that were only denied by the outstanding performance of the Charlestown goalkeeper.

The second half saw Charlestown slightly more invigorated and more frequently testing the FMNC defence however the boys were more than up to the task throughout the game. With Zeb Watts scoring the 5th goal of the game, FMNC sealed what was an encouraging team effort as their path to the finals continues.

It was a tough day at the office for the 14’s as they took on Charlestown at Taree Zone Field. From the kick off, MNC seemed flat and off the pace and they soon paid the price in the 13th minute when a free kick was awarded to Charlestown. This shot was deflected and found its way into the net to give Charlestown the lead.

With the level of intensity being so low, passing accuracy suffered and so did quick ball movement. This continued on for the entire first half.

The second half started the same as the first, sluggish and flat. But MNC hung in there and persevered, and at the 54th minute were awarded a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. This was nicely taken and MNC equalized to make the score 1 all.

The result of this saw both teams lift a little but desperation from both sides saw that no further goals were scored. The final result was 1-1.

Although not one of the best performances from MNC, they did manage to get a point out of the game they should probably have lost. This in itself shows the character of these boys and their ability to hang in there.

Round 19 saw the “Mighty Bears”, as they like to call themselves, find their Mojo at Taree Zone Field against Charlestown FC.

The game started well with FMNC holding possession and making it difficult for Charlestown to get going. The consistent possession and pressure applied by FMNC paid off in the 30th minute when a good delivery from a free kick 10 metres outside the corner of the 18 yard box found the back of the net via a deflection off the Charlestown keeper (FMNC 1 – Charlestown 0).

The second goal  for FMNC came in the 1st minute back from the half time break with a sneaky back heel from Lachlan Brown and the 3rd goal came 4 minutes later from an own goal driven into the bottom left of the net.

Throughout the game FMNC dominated possession and were clinical in their defensive structure. A well deserved win boys.

Final score – FMNC 3 Charlestown 0
