NPL Round 21 vs Valentine

August 18th, 2016

Sunday 14th August 2016
Croudace Bay
Under 13’s

Sunday at Valentine – would make for a terrific movie script starring Mark (the mighty) Hemler as the passionate leader of the mid north coast groupies. For another day maybe.

Great pitch, yet a bit slippery, close spectator seating and a magic sunny day greeted the boys. A fantastic start with an early goal to the travelling side. A sustained effort by Valentine showing their ability to work hard together and keep the pressure on our backs, who continually showed their persistence to defend, move forward and create opportunities for the forwards.  This kept the game scoreless for a long period of play.

As the game progressed into the second half goals to both teams changed the tempo of the match. Coaches, trainers, managers, sisters of players all yelling out instructions to the boys for them to play as a team and finish the game strong.

In the end a 4-1 win against the home side. Great effort by all involved.

Final score – FMNC 4 Valentine 1

Round 21 saw MNC take on Valentine at CB Complex, Croudace Bay.

MNC continued their run of good form against an opposition who probably don’t deserve their current place on the ladder.

MNC dominated play early and the reward came in the 11th minute when a through ball came from the halfway line. Our striker had some work to do and neatly tucked the ball away to make it 1 nil. Throughout the first half MNC had the majority of possession but couldn’t find that second goal.

After the halftime break and team talk, MNC came out in a different frame of mind. It took only three minutes for the second goal to come. Starting from the keeper, the ball was released down the left hand side a cross came in and the ball was finished by a Valentine defender. 2:0.

10 minutes later another goal came from a cross down the right hand side which saw the shot placed nicely to make it 3:0.  In the 51st minute another goal came from Aaron to give him his hat trick for the day (4:0).  Five minutes from time MNC scored their final goal of the game when the ball was firmly struck from a bit of a goal mouth scramble to make the final score 5 nil.

MNC are looking forward to this week’s final game of the regular season when they take on the Newcastle Jets. A big game for our guys as they prepare for the finals next week.

The 17s squad seemed on a mission to re-find their recent form, opening the game with a goal scoring opportunity against Valentine FC. When the boys move the ball quickly as they have proved they can, it makes it very difficult for the opposition to settle into the game. In the 6th minute of the half Valentine gave away a free kick roughly 15 metres outside their own 18 yard box and to the left of the goal. A well delivered free kick in to the box found Ty Marchant’s flick-on header beat the keeper to put FMNC ahead 1-0. FMNC continued to move the ball well finding the net again in the 22nd minute from a low directed shot from Lachlan Brown to go 2-0.

The second half started a little slower for FMNC, narrowly denied a third by a brilliant save from the Valentine keeper.  The half deteriorated rapidly after that unfortunately until the 72nd minute when Valentine scored to give the FMNC bench and supporters a level of stress that is just not necessary on a Sunday afternoon!!  In the last 8 minutes of the match the boys gave away three free kicks well in their own half but kept Valentine out to notch up another win for the season. Well done boys.

Final score – FMNC 2 Valentine 1
