Sunday 1st May 2016
Taree Zone Field
Under 13’s
The game was played with light rain falling throughout the first half. The game started with FMNC supporting their new strip and on the attack straight away with Angus Bear having the first real opportunity to score when he lobbed over the keeper only to be denied by some scrambling defence by the Maitland backs who cleared the ball from the line.
Shortly after was a shot by Zeb Watts that hit the post and rebounded to safety and within minutes Luke Townsend had his shot blocked by some good keeping. It took until the 25th minute for the first goal with good lead up work from the midfield with Mason Moore finishing off 1-0 FMNC.
From the kick-off a mistake by Maitland led to FMNC working the play up field for their second goal – again scored by Mason Moore 2-0 FMNC.
In the 28th minute Maitland had their best chance moving the ball well up field only to be denied by the defensive effort of Ben Oakley preventing any shot opportunity. With half time approaching FMNC scored their third goal, also by Mason Moore which made a hat trick for him 3-0.
The second half was hampered by heavier rain than the first which made conditions much harder for the teams and although the ball went from one end to the other there were few opportunities other than a couple of shots either offline or stopped by the keeper.
3-0 FMNC’s way was a good win for the boys under the conditions. This coming weekend see the boys travel to Charlestown and hopefully another win for the boys. Final result was a 3-0 victory to FMNC.

Under 14s
Sunday saw FMNC 14s welcome Maitland to a wet and soggy Zone Field. Having had the previous week off with the bye, the boys were looking well rested. In weather better suited to ducks however, the boys seemed to find the conditions difficult and swayed away from their traditional game play. Having said that they did manage to create a number of opportunities and placed the Maitland goal keeper under pressure. Perseverance resulted in the ball finding the back of the net and the 14s took a 1 nil lead into the half time break.
Despite the rain slowing during the half time break the boys returned to the field and so did the rain! Maitland came out in the second half very determined and pressed the boys hard resulting in them scoring an equaliser. Calm words on the sideline from coach Darrell Pascoe and the ever present support of parents seemed to spur the boys on with them scoring a second goal prior to the full time whistle. Final score 2-1 to FMNC.
